The Corral Fire, which began Saturday afternoon and raged overnight, was 30 percent contained by Sunday afternoon. Gusty winds, hot, dry temperatures, and parched grass created conditions that allowed the fire to spread quickly and easily. The cause of the fire remains unknown and and an investigation is pending. San Joaquin County officials delivered evacuation orders to 'Areas west of the California Aqueduct, South of Corral Hollow Creek, West to Alameda County and South to Stanislaus County.'

Bernardo Raul Castro-Mata, 19, shot two NYPD cops in East Elmhurst, Queens using an unlicensed gun on Monday morning after they tried to pull him over. The cops are being treated in hospital. Although Castro-Mata has not previously been arrested in New York City, police believe he is part of a group which has been using scooters to commit violent robberies. He arrived in the US illegally via Eagle Pass last year.

Locals from a town known for its flashy façade said they feel forgotten as new residents and tourist flock to their city. Heuermann, 60, is expected to appear in court in Riverhead on Thursday for his arraignment, according to Newsday. Robert Roberson III, 57, was sentenced to death for the February 2002 death of his daughter, Nikki Curtis, at his home in Palestine in East Texas. The three young friends who were seen embracing each other before being swept away to their deaths during a flash flood in Italy were just 'a couple of metres from safety', rescuers have revealed.  Heartbreaking footage posted on X showed Patrizia Cormos, 20, her friend Bianca Doros, 23, and her boyfriend Cristian Molnar, 25, standing thigh deep in a churning river. They were last seen alive on Friday when they took a walk along the Natisone River, Udine in the Friuli region.

Fans attending UFC 302 in Newark, New Jersey got treated to some extra fighting in the stands that led to one man being thrown down several rows of seats. Video shows two men in an argument at the Prudential Center while the UFC event happened behind them. Seas turned red with the animals' blood as they were slashed and stabbed after being held in an inescapable part of the harbour at Hvannasund, a village on the west coast of Viðoy, the northernmost island in the archipelago. Witnesses said the drive was particularly shocking for the length of time the animals suffered.On Saturday at around 11.30am local time, a Faroese fisheries patrol vessel spotted a pod that was initially estimated at 50 to 100 long-finned pilot whales off of Viðoy. At 12.45 the decision was taken to drive them in and over the coming hours the pod was slowly forced towards land. The suspect had admitted to biting Hayes arm while playing with him and hitting the baby's head on the bathroom door frame while trying to make him throw up.

A Minnesota woman didn't think twice before following a black bear when it began to chase her beloved dog. Bailey Jacobson was leaving her Maple Grove house with her German shepherd Zeus on Tuesday night, when they came face-to-face with an unexpected visitor - a mama bear and her three cubs. Zeus began trotting towards the bear, which was digging through a garbage can on the property, but this only prompted it to lunge towards him. After a momentary pause, Jacobson followed the pair as they bounded down the driveway. She and Zeus later escaped unharmed.

Carol Haynes, 80, offered the story to a station in her native Kentucky - as foreclosure rates across the country continue to creep up in the wake of the pandemic. The financial pit created by the crisis, she said, affected her and her husband of 25 years  - after the killer virus claimed his life in 2022. His death triggered a freeze on his bank accounts, seeing their automatic mortgage payments on their two-bedroom home in Florence halted.
